LOCATION: MEDIA CITY, SALFORD, M50 1DR

SALARY: £20,000.00

WORKING WEEK: 40HRS/WK MON-FRI 8:00AM-5PM INCL. 1 HOUR UNPAID LUNCH

REPORT TO/SUPERVISED BY: FINANCE MANAGER & OFFICE MANAGER

The firm was founded in 2000 and was originally operated by Mr Geoffrey Miller (deceased) himself. The firm is now operated and managed by Miss Jeanette Miller, also known as ‘Miss Justice!’

Jeanette acts in defending motoring prosecutions amongst many high profile figures and regularly contributes to supplying specialist motoring comments in newspapers, magazines, TV and radio.

If you succeed with your application, you will be part of our dynamic team based at our head office in Media City, Salford; a modern destination in Manchester with creativity, leisure and a vibrant atmosphere.

What work will I be doing? What responsibilities will I have?

The successful candidate will be working within the Accounts department to provide accurate financial recording of both firms’ accounts, which will include but is not limited to:

  1. Dealing with the Purchase Ledger.  Including processing of nominal and disbursement invoices and company credit cards, ensuring the authorisation process is followed. Posting of all direct debits which appear on the office bank account ensuring continuity of nominal codes and VAT.  Exporting payments onto bankline.  Sending remittance advices.
  2. Dealing with Sales Ledger.  Including raising of invoices and sending to clients, ensuring debtors list is checked on a monthly basis, any outstanding invoices need to investigated with a manager and credited off is advised to do so.
  3. Reconciling bank accounts across both firms;
  4. Knowledge of double entry.
  5. Experience of Accruals and Prepayments.
  6. Experience of preparation of management accounts.
  7. Checking and dealing with any office credit balances;
  8. Hourly rate billing;
  9. Agreed fee billing;
  10. Banking any cheques received;
  11. Handle and maintain petty cash under supervision;
  12. Filing;
  13. Process any transfers and refunds;
  14. Manage, allocate and/or write off WIP on all agreed fee cases on a weekly basis;
  15. Manage archiving of files;
  16. Opening files;
  17. Update target board at the end of the day and share with all staff;
  18. Send daily figures for both firms to Managing Director at the end of each working day;
  19. Deal with any Central Funds refunds received in to client account;
  20. To be able to produce quarterly SAR reports.

Training to be provided:

In depth job-specific training from the Finance Manager & Office Manager.

• Working knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR) essential

• Previous experience of working in a legal accounts department essential

• Ability to work with Microsoft Office; Word, Outlook & Excel at an intermediate level.

• Experience in the preparation of management accounts, including preparation of accruals and prepayments.

• Previous experience using Proclaim case management/accounting system desirable

• Excellent customer service skills
