JOB DESCRIPTION – PARALEGAL

We are looking for an exceptional paralegal to join the UK’s most prestigious firm of specialist driving offence solicitors; defending drivers nationwide for all UK criminal motoring offences. We are a niche firm specialising in defending motor offences. In addition we also have a sister company (JS Miller Solicitors) which deals with serious motor offences (including death by dangerous driving) and high value litigation.

We are a friendly, modern firm with our main focus on client care. We are proud to invest in training and supporting all our team members to help them achieve their career goals. Geoffrey Miller Solicitors is a great place to work and we want to find the right person to join our team of specialists who are constantly innovating and developing our strategies and approach.

As a paralegal you will start by assisting senior members of the team and the Directors. We provide in house training from day one to enable you to quickly progress to running your own cases and being responsible to your own clients. Our aim is for you to succeed and develop quickly, to enable the firm to continue to provide excellent service and representation to those that need it.

Once you have completed your probation period, if applicable, we will consider whether or not you are potentially ready for a training contract with the firm, if you have already completed the LPC.

We are also open to subsidising/funding the LPC/CILEx for outstanding candidates yet to embark on these academic stages.

We like home grown talent here and we are proud that the majority of our solicitors started working for us as paralegals.

The role will involve:

  • Taking new enquiry calls, advising and converting those enquiries
  • Advising clients on all aspects including technical issues, costs, penalties
  • Drafting letters, documents and statements
  • Reviewing CCTV and other evidence
  • Instructing experts and Counsel
  • Drafting blogs and articles
  • Assisting solicitors and ultimately running own case load

Person Specification, knowledge and experience:

  • Law degree / ILEX, or equivalent
  • Criminal law experience as a paralegal, or advanced modules in criminal law
  • Experience as a paralegal in motoring law would be ideal

Personal qualities of special importance:

  •  To adopt the highest level client care in every aspect of your work
  • Have excellent time management and organisational skills to be able to work quickly and efficiently as part of a fast paced team in this demanding role. You’ll need to be able to multi-task and to meet strict deadlines
  • Be able to work independently and confidently (especially in your telephone manner), with a positive attitude
  • Cope well under pressure with a resilient ‘can do’ attitude
  • Excellent attention to detail, specifically in relation to written and grammar skills
  • Commercial awareness
  • Empathy for clients and a genuine desire to help those who face prosecution
  • To embrace intensive training and act upon feedback
  • Be a reliable and friendly team player with a respectful attitude towards work companions of all levels and status
  • Understanding of the laws of attraction/positive mindset

What we can offer the right candidate:

  • Friendly and supportive team environment
  • Competitive salary and benefits package; we are a Living Wage Employer
  • Excellent rewards scheme based on realistic targets
  • Training and development, as well as clear career progression
